Accor Korea is leading the charge in ethical sourcing in the region, committing to transition to 100% cage-free eggs by 2025. This move marks a significant milestone in the company’s sustainability journey and is a powerful example for the hospitality industry.
With Lever’s support, Accor Hotels in Korea has already made commendable strides, removing caged eggs from 90% of its operations over the past three years. The remaining hotels are set to follow suit, fully eliminating caged eggs by 2025.
Vincent Lelay, Vice President of Operations at Accor Korea, underscored the company’s commitment to animal welfare and environmental responsibility by transitioning to 100% cage-free eggs. He emphasized that this shift not only upholds high standards of quality and safety for guests but also reflects the company’s broader dedication to sustainable practices.
Accor’s partnership with Lever Foundation has facilitated this transition, offering operational resources and marketing support to ensure a seamless shift to cage-free sourcing.
The move to cage-free eggs aligns with Accor’s Planet 2021 initiative to improve environmental performance and social responsibility. This commitment is further supported by Accor’s achievement of Green Key and Green Globe certifications, demonstrating their ongoing dedication to sustainability.
Accor’s decision is part of a larger global trend among leading hospitality companies, including Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Radisson, IHG, and Best Western, all of which are moving towards cage-free egg sourcing. As the hospitality sector embraces more humane and sustainable practices, the best way for individual consumers to improve the welfare of hens is by reducing or eliminating egg consumption.
