Lever China has entered into a strategic partnership with the Low-Carbon Hotel Development Institute, a government-affiliated organization in China, to significantly boost the adoption of plant-based foods within the country’s hotel sector. This collaboration is a crucial step toward reducing the carbon footprint of China’s hospitality industry and promoting more sustainable dining practices.

As part of this agreement, the Low-Carbon Hotel Development Institute has officially incorporated plant-based foods into its recommended strategies for carbon reduction. The Institute is now working closely with Lever China to introduce the benefits of plant-based foods to hotel chains across the country. Furthermore, it has been announced that the expanded use of plant-based foods will be crucial in developing a new certification standard to recognize hotels in China as environmentally sustainable.

“We recognize the important role of plant-based foods in helping hotels reduce carbon emissions and improve catering profitability,” said Institute Executive Director Jingju Lu in a joint press release issued with Lever China about the partnership.

Over several months, Lever China’s team has engaged with many private and state-owned hotel groups to set plant-based food policy targets. Several of these hotel groups have already committed to public pledges, which will be featured in an industry-wide scorecard that Lever China is set to release in the near future.
