Every frequent flyer has likely crossed paths with gategroup in the sky, even without knowing it. The Swiss catering giant is the world’s largest provider of airline catering services serving over 700 million passengers each year. Its four business units – Servair, deSter, Gate Gourmet and gateretail – provide everything from onboard retail and food service provisioning to food logistics for major airline companies in over 60 countries across all continents.

Over 75% of eggs used by gategroup for its global catering operations are already cage-free. Still, the company is eager to increase this figure as it is fully aware of the importance of humane sourcing for its customers and that’s when Lever’s team jumped in. Over the course of a year, Lever played an instrumental role in helping gategroup find a stable supply of cage-free eggs in its most challenging markets. Together with other organizations, we secured a commitment from gategroup to source only cage-free eggs for its global operations by 2025.

gategroup’s size and complex operations in multiple global markets make its commitment extremely important to egg-laying hens worldwide, who will be able to stretch their wings and enjoy the freedom of movement. However, eggs are not the only issue on Lever’s mind as we look for ways to improve the lives of other animals in the gategroup’s supply chain. Moving forward, Lever will keep working with gategroup to make a positive difference for animals around the globe.
