Fans of Chili’s Grill & Bar and Maggiano’s Little Italy now have another reason to love their favorite restaurants. Brinker International, the parent company of these popular dining spots, has announced its commitment to shift to cage-free eggs in all its locations worldwide by 2028.

The company owns, operates, or franchises over 1,600 casual dining restaurants in 29 countries, including China, India, and Japan, and has committed to sourcing only cage-free eggs for use in its restaurants.

Brinker International has already made strides in its shift to cage-free eggs in the U.S. market. This year, 26% of directly sourced eggs will be cage-free, with the company targeting 50% by 2024 and 100% by 2025.

The shift to cage-free eggs is a crucial animal welfare initiative gaining momentum across the restaurant industry. Brinker International’s pledge follows in the footsteps of other leading restaurant groups, including Darden Restaurants, Focus Brands, Inspire Brands, Restaurant Brands International, YUM Brands, and JAB Holdings. All these companies have committed to sourcing only cage-free eggs in all their markets.

Lever assisted Brinker in making the switch, providing valuable resources and supplier lists in key markets to make the transition easier for the company.  Brinker International’s shift to cage-free eggs is a significant step towards a more humane treatment of egg-laying hens in Asia. As consumers become more conscious about the impact of their food choices, companies must take meaningful action to improve animal welfare, protect the environment, and promote public health.
